- What does "ape index" mean? Your "ape index" is the difference between your height and your arm span. If you're 5'11", and your arm span is 6'0", then your ape index is +1.
- Is rock climbing hard? The climbs range from "way easy" to "don't try this at home." We can help you find a climb for your skill level. Don't worry. We'll give you pointers to help you out.
- Do you have to be in shape? Absolutely not. There are climbing routes for all skill levels, even for couch potatoes.
- Is rock climbing safe? We only climb with proper safety gear, and we only let you climb once you know how to use it. We will teach you everything you need to know about climbing safety before you begin to climb, and there will always be staff available for help and advice.
- What do I bring with me to climb at the gym? Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely. All the gear you need (climbing shoes, harness, chalk, bag) is available for rent at the gym (see PRICING).
- Where can we go climbing outdoors? Anywhere worldwide, or close to home. If you're on a budget, we can climb for a half day in the Phoenix area. If you want something more exotic, we can put together a first class overseas cilmbing trip. Give us a call and we can start planning.
- What do I bring with me to climb outdoors? Wear comfortable clothing and shoes. We'll provide the rest, and also give you suggestions according to the time of year and your climbing destination. We will bring all the necessary climbing equipment and safety gear (shoes, harness, chalk, ropes, helmet, etc.) and a backpack in which to carry it. We also provide water and sunscreen for everyone on the trip.
- Do I need to sign a waiver? Of course! All indoor climbers must sign waivers at the gym; EVERY minor must have a parent or legal guardian sign on his/her behalf. For outdoor climbing, please fill out a waiver and email it back to us (or print out and mail back) before your climbing trip.
